Rocking the Boat
Rocking the Boat students work together to build wooden boats, learn to row and sail, and restore local urban waterways, revitalizing their Hunts Point, Bronx community—the area was recently deemed the least promising place to grow up by the Citizens’ Committee for Children of New York—while creating better lives for themselves.
A major leadership grant from the Meringoff Foundation allowed Rocking the Boat to buy its South Bronx building and take a major step toward creating a $1,000,000 endowment, ensuring the organization's sustainability and impact over the long term. In addition, multiyear operating support helped to establish the peer-led College Persistence Program.
“Stephen put all of his resources to work for Rocking the Boat—his philanthropy, his real estate expertise, and his entrepreneurial spirit. His strategic guidance and the Foundation’s support were truly the drivers behind this deal working out as well as it has.”
