Adaptive Sports Foundation
Catskill Mountains-based Adaptive Sports Foundation (ASF) provides outdoor physical activities and wellness education for children and adults with physical and intellectual disabilities or chronic illnesses. In winter, ASF offers skiing, snowboarding, Nordic cross country/biathlon, and para-bobsled/skeleton programs. Summer options include paddling, stand up paddle boarding, para-rowing, road cycling and mountain biking, golf, hiking, and fitness training.
Gen 2 funding will support the road cycling and mountain biking components of ASF’s Warriors in Motion programming for injured US military veterans. All Warriors in Motion programs are goal oriented and empower vets to take charge of their recovery through fitness and wellness, helping them make a healthy transition to civilian life.
“By attending Warriors in Motion I find myself more social and able to interact freely with others; this is coming from someone who not long ago isolated himself due to severe chronic PTSD. The staff and various programs have helped me mentally as well as physically; I get out more and explore sports and activities well out of my comfort zone such as snowboarding and cycling. Three years ago, I never went out on bicycle rides and now I am out riding up to 200 miles a week on my own or with family members…I would like to personally thank ASF for bringing me closer to my family and teaching us activities we now do together as a family.”
