Since its creation in 2008, the Meringoff Family Foundation has awarded over $13,500,000 to more than 100 organizations, the vast majority of which are New York City-based. In 2015, our grants budget was $2,700,000.

As a family, we make hands-on philanthropic investments in nonprofits that are working to level the playing field for young New Yorkers.  We believe it is our job to invest in local kids to help them build a future.

Currently, the Foundation's primary focus is enhancing public education outcomes in NYC.    We also are interested in furthering critical programs in cutting edge medical research and innovative public health interventions.

We actively engage in a dialogue with our nonprofit partners to identify their unmet needs, and leverage our seed capital to develop programs that satisfy those needs over time.

We believe that our real work starts when the grant award check is mailed, and strive to maintain an active, mutually beneficial relationship with our partners.

Our multiyear grants are generally limited to three years.

We are accessible, responsive, flexible, and approach our work with enthusiasm and an open mind.

“At a certain moment in my life, I realized that there was a burning desire on my part to give back to the city that has been so good to me. I have always believed that in the first third of your life you learn, the second third you earn, and the final third you return.

The Meringoff Family Foundation is my vehicle for giving back to New York City, and it is particularly meaningful that my children participate fully with me in the joy of philanthropy.”
